我的夏日可食花园:第一部分

外面可能很热, but my garden is awash in brightly colored flowers from my single bougainvillea, 亚利桑那黄铃铛和“太棒了”鼠尾草, 夏日炎炎，哪一种耸肩.

Last year, we decided to create an 可食用的花园 along the side of our house.

The centerpiece of the 可食用的花园 is the 菜园.  Right now, it is filled with corn, 西葫芦, 西红柿, cucumbers and 向日葵.

在前面, is my colorful container filled with a variety of herbs including basil, 欧芹, 鼠尾草和百里香.  I bought an inexpensive plastic container and spray painted it a bright blue.  The container is connected to the drip system of the 菜园.

In the foreground (not pictured) is our new 亚利桑那甜橙树.  We 植物ed it last year and are excited to have three oranges 成长ing on it.

You may be thinking that three oranges is not much to be excited about, 但在柑橘树种下的头几年里，你能摘到任何水果都是幸运的.

Newly 植物ed citrus trees shouldn’t be fertilized during the first year, 因为你想让他们专注于根的生长, 当没有坚实的根系供它们依赖时，它们就不能在上层生长.  Since it has been a year since we have 植物ed it, we will fertilize this year.  

在前面 of the 菜园 are a pair of 新桃树s.

Inside the 菜园, 向日葵 seeds are beginning to form.  It is so fun to see the birds hanging upside down trying to get to the seeds.

The slightly 枯萎 植物 in the foreground is a pumpkin 植物.  If you want a pumpkin for fall, then June is when you want to 植物 them.

It is normal for the leaves to wilt slightly during the heat of the day.  他们将在当天晚些时候恢复正常.

Zucchini can hide underneath the large leaves of the 西葫芦植物.  I’m going to use this one to make my chocolate chip 西葫芦 bread.  It’s delicious and your kids will never know there is 西葫芦 in it 😉

My 西红柿 are flourishing in the natural 阴影 provided by my 向日葵.

Behind the 菜园 are my 两棵苹果树, 植物ed this January.  One is a Anna 苹果 tree and the other is a Dorsett Golden. 这些苹果树在沙漠中生长得很好，尽管单独种植会结出苹果，但它们会结出更多的苹果，因为它们会交叉授粉.
